Hello! I’m Miyabi, a native Japanese speaker and a mother of two boys.

While raising my children, I realized that the way they naturally learn language is surprisingly similar to how foreign learners should learn Japanese – through context, repetition, and curiosity.

I also studied language psychology at university, and today I run the YouTube channel Japan Phrase Adventure, where I help learners absorb Japanese naturally – just like a native child would.

Let’s look at an example:

Natural Japanese (spoken):

今（いま）駅（えき）ついたー！どこにいる？

Textbook Japanese:

私（わたし）はいま駅（えき）に着（つ）きました。あなたはどこにいますか？

Same meaning, completely different feel. Spoken Japanese often skips particles, shortens words, and focuses on nuance and tone.
